The Meeting

  • Thursday’s meeting  is at Chevron for the Flyer Poster Awards.  Judges were wonderful.
  • Two New Members will be Joining Rotary on the following Thursday Robin Fossleman and, Shannon Magid.  Robyn owns The Mail Box in El Segundo and Shannon seems to know everyone in the club, except for me.  Pleae join us a week from Thursday on October 25th.  If you remember when you were inducted it is a big deal to the person being inducted, and a life changer for many of us.
  • We received a letter from The Castaway Kids,  Jesus and Jesus (not a Christian Law Office) thanking us for the  $1200 arranged by Sandy Jacobs.  They thanked our President Melissa Albers.
  • Raffle Prizes brought by Sheila Fowler and there were many of them.  It was garage cleaning time.
  • Our newest possible member, Robin sold the Raffle tickets getting one of the tasks out of the way for her blue badge even before she is formally a member.  Last weeks picture was taken by our other potential new member, Shannon Magid.
  • The Middle School came to talk to and thank us our support of the International Garden
  • Sandy introduced her husband Carl, who came in uniform.  Sandy loves men that dress up.
  • Chuck from Culver City joined us again and has better attendance than a few of our current members.
  • Joe read us a lexicon of Medical terms and what they mean in the South, where Tom (was our President before Melissa) came from.  A few of the words follow.
    • Artery – Study of Art
    • Cauterize – Made eye contact.
    • Fibula – a small lie.
    • Morbid – Higher Offer
    • Pelvis is second cousin to Elvis
    • Tumor – One plus one more.
  • Dean: Birthdays and Anniversaries with a few more of Floyds cards.  Floyd attended the meeting just to make sure his legacy was being followed.  Dean is doing an outstanding Job, but running out of cards Floyd.
  • Frank Glynn received a card that said something like:  “Staying Single is Sheik”, “Divorce is in Vogue”, “Living Together is Common”,  and “Marriage is Kinky”.
  • Alex received a card and was asked how many years he has been married.  He said 39 years, and Floyd said that was a good start.
  • Marsha the fine master couldn't make the meeting so we all got a break from fines.  Joe was trying to think of something but Tom moved it along quickly.

Sadness was experienced.  Jeami lost her baby and Myron Harpo of the Hacienda passed away.  Myron was Joes boss and has donated lots of money and time to Rotary for a long time.   Include them both in your special prayers.

The Speaker

Dr. Robert Piccioni, BS from Cal Tech,  PHD in High Energy Physics from Stanford, and a faculty member  of Harvard.  Tom, (our Supreme Commander) introduced him.  Tom has 9 hours of Credit at Memphis Night School.  The credits were in Campground Maintenance.  Tom also has a GED.

Dr. Piccioni  talked about Einstein.  He was very good, very informative, and very funny.  He has given this presentation before.   In his younger days Einstein was somewhat of a flake; got poor grades and had a bad attitude.  His background was similar to Tom’s to that point, but he became Einstein.  Tom became…Tom.  (Actually I pick on Tom too much but he picks on me as well.  Tom is doing one hell-of-a-job…I mean that too.  It is my custom to pick on Presidents and the Strong, but sometimes I should back off, I did for the rest of this bulletin)

The rest of his program he talked about the Theory of Relativity which he explained so that everyone could understand it.  Well…not everyone.  I still don’t get it.  But here it is…Think About It.

Think about it some more.
