Rotary Bulletin of May 8, 2014  “Be Careful What You Think” by Gary Wilson, Bulletin Editor

The Meeting
The meeting was fairly typical for Len.  He started on time, worked off “The Spread Sheet”, had a pledge and some words of wisdom which I forget right now.  We had a full house again and there was the usual good natured banter with a little fining by the best finemaster….Joe.  He is very good at that and should have a TV show called “Judge Joe”.

Nancy made the front page of the El Segundo Herald and she was fined.  Fining Elyse is always fun.  Joe further commented that he had a bet of sorts with Shannon who had some kids who were going to attend RYLA.  Shannon was so sure that here kids would not enjoy it and told Joe that if they did, she would give him (Rotary) $100.  She gave Joe the check and all clapped and smiled at her honesty and generosity.  I think Joe may have fined her too.  She laughed.  Have you ever seen Shannon not “up”.  A very nice trait Shannon, its infectious on those around you and thanks.

Len told us that the club donated $1000 to the Floyd Carr Scholarship and that is a very nice way to remember our recently lost friend.  His name goes on and so does he.

Jim McLees told a joke.  I think he said that he had two.  One for the adults and one for the kids.  Since there was kids in the room I thought he would pick that one.  I was wrong, or I would have hated to hear the “Adult” one.  Jim goes under the heading with Joe and Elyse of “Never having an unspoken thought”.  Actually, you don’t have to say everything on your mind.  You are encouraged not to.  But I am sure he will redeem himself and put on those Eagle Scout pants and tell a very nice joke.   Right Jim?

The Program  --  Carl the Mentalist

Most of us that were at this program would say that it was the best in a long time.  This guy was great.  Funny and gifted from the Magic Castle.  He was out of the “Hypnotist and Magic School” way of doing things and combined both with excellent humor and timing.  Fun and funny and could laugh at himself as well.

I can’t even begin to tell you all the things he could do from predicting what numbers someone on the other end of the room would roll on a dice, see the number and show no one, and he would tell you what it was.

He had Kevin think of someone and right the name down, and he figured out what the name was.  If Kevin had picked the name “Jackie Johnson, weather girl”, we all would figure that out.  Instead he went with a different name and Carl the Mentalist got it right.

He did that with other’s in the room and never missed once, except when my ticket was drawn to pick the playing cards for the cash.  Of course I asked him to pick the card, and that was his first and only miss for the day.  Oh well.

Lets bring him back next year.
