PARK VISTA HOLIDAY LUNCHEON, by Jack Weber

On Thursday, December 6th, the El Segundo Rotary held the annual Holiday Luncheon for the
residents of Park Vista. As far as I know, we have never kept count of how many we served. However,
our own Chef Melissa and her sous-chef, Randy, reported that the somewhat unruly crowd (fellow
Rotarians caused the melee in the rush to eat), absolutely demolished the meal. We understand why –
Melissa and Randy made meat loaf, vegetables and cloverleaf dinner rolls which was outstanding.
Topped off by a homemade chocolate cake, the luncheon was deserving of the 5 star rating of the
culinary feats of Chef Hannes. Impeccably, presented and served by the El Segundo High School Wait
Staff, it was delightful. We are certainly thankful and grateful for Melissa and Randy’s work. Many of us
would starve if it was not for their culinary delights. Thanks!

Christmas gifts were put out so that every Park Vista resident had a choice (wrapped in nice wrapping
paper so they did not know what the surprise was). It’s rumored that some took more than one.

The highlight of this year’s Holiday Luncheon was the presentation of Holiday music by the El Segundo
High School Choir. The Choir has won many awards, such as performing in London at the Olympics
(chosen from choirs around the world), a sold out performance at Carnegie Hall in New York City and
many, many others. The Choir is led by and taught by Gianna Summers who is the Chorale and Chamber
Singers teacher at El Segundo High School. The performance was spectacular and it is apparent why the
choir is award-winning. They did a flawless and inspiring medley for the enjoyment of all.

If you were not there, you missed an incredible Holiday Luncheon with outstanding food and music. But
then you would have had to sit in the extended hallway since there was no room in the dining room.

The El Segundo Rotary Club presented a check for $250 to the choir as a very small appreciation for their
appearance with us.

Did anyone notice how nervous our Supreme Commander, Tom, was? I figure there were two causes for
it: the size of the crowd (he’s only used to commanding a small platoon and this was an overflow event)
or he was afraid they would make him sing. Maybe it was both.

Picture below is Past President Dick talking to a Future President Dean asking:  "Dean, can you bring back the Cigars and Strippers, those were the good old days."  Dean said "Yea Dick I can and will"

There is not too many "Guy Singers", why is that?
