Twisted Tales Haunted House survived Halloween! This event was well attended by the community. It has branded itself as a new event for El Segundo and folks are already looking forward to the Haunted House next year. Big thank you to the City, the Masonic lodge, and all of the Rotary members and community people who helped setup, played character roles, and helped with cleanup. Thank you to all the volunteers who made this event possible!
We are now in November and Thanksgiving is upon us in just a few weeks. Please note that our club will be dark on Nov 28th. This week we will hear from LAWA with an update on happenings at LAX. Park Vista is coming up on Dec 5th. Before we know it, Christmas season will be here. Happy November!
Who Killed the Butler?
Our meeting on Halloween included a Murder Mystery Game of "Who Killed the Butler". Frank Glynn played the role of butler who died suddenly causing the contents of a nearby table to go flying as he himself fell dramatically to the floor. Several alarmed members jumped up to assist at which point we realized this was part of the murder mystery. We went through a list of 10 or so possible killers, all played by members, and after several rounds of voting, we discovered the killer, who was expertly played by Dickie Van Breen. Thank you Marsha for putting this together! It was a fun meeting.

Robotics Club Meeting

On 10/24 we welcomed the very talented members of the Robotics Club of ESHS. The P.O.T.A.T.O.E.S - People Of Tomorrow Applying Their Outstanding Engineering Skills - demonstrated the operation of several different robots. Such amazing talent and such cool robots!

Did you know that Pandas fake pregnancy for better care.?

A Chinese panda named Ai Hin was believed to be pregnant (showing signs like an increased appetite and less movement) and zookeepers ensured she was well taken care of with extra food, a single room with air conditioning, and more. But then they realized she was not pregnant at all. Researchers believe it may have been a deliberate faking of the pregnancy in order to get the better treatment and treats.

HEALTH, HUNGER AND HUMANITY GRANTS

In 1978, Rotary launched its most comprehensive humanitarian service activity with the Health, Hunger and Humanity Program. The 3-H Program is designed to undertake large-scale service projects beyond the capacity of individual Rotary clubs or groups of clubs.
By 1994, more than 135 different 3-H projects have been approved and undertaken in 49 different countries, with an appropriation at more than $37 million. The objective of these projects is to improve health, alleviate hunger and enhance human, cultural and social development among peoples of the world. The ultimate goal is to advance international understanding, goodwill and peace.
The first 3-H project was the immunization of 6 million children in the Philippines against polio. As 3-H progressed, new programs were added to help people in developing areas of the world. Now, in addition to the mass polio immunization of over 100 million children in various countries, 3-H has promoted nutrition programs, vocational education, and improved irrigation to increase food production, polio victim rehabilitation and other activities which benefit large numbers of people in developing countries. All 3-H projects are supported by the voluntary contributions of Rotarians through The Rotary Foundation. In years to come the 3-H Program may well be considered Rotary's finest service activity, showing how Rotarians care and are concerned about people in need, wherever they may be.
