March is a very busy month for our Rotary club. We are "all hands on deck" preparing for Malt Madness 2020 coming up on 3/27. There are many shifts that need volunteers. CLICK HERE to view our work schedule and please contact Dean if you are able to sign up for a shift. We are still looking for additional sponsors, vendors and donations for silent auction. If you have any leads, please have them check out our Malt Madness event page for more information and to download forms. If anyone wants to buy tickets online, please direct them to our page on Eventbrite: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/malt-madness-2020-tickets-90683014337.
Coming up we also have Mayor's Good Friday breakfast on April 10th. Tickets are available and we need help getting the word out and selling tickets. If anyone needs tickets, please contact Gilda. She is also looking for event sponsors. Please let Gilda know if you have any leads or have any interest in sponsoring a table.
We will be selling tickets for both events at the farmers market in El Segundo over the next three weeks. We need assistance in manning the booth and with setup and removal. We would appreciate any help we can get! Please let Carolyne know if you can help out. It's an opportunity to sell your own tickets and to help promote our club and share the workload.
Coming up this week is the State of the City on Wednesday March 11th. So far we have about 14 people from Rotary signed up to attend. We also have the District Breakfast on March 31st with 10 people signed up. The LAX Bob Hope USO meeting also has about 23 people signed up. Its always so awesome to see our Rotary club come together and represent at these different meetings and events! #weareproudrotarians

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Saint Patrick's Day is the feast day of Saint Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland, and a day of celebration for Irish people. Saint Patrick’s Day is also called Paddy’s day. It is celebrated on March 17 all over Ireland and everywhere in the world where Irish people or their descendants live. New York City has one of the biggest parades. It is a very Irish festival, and it involves a lot of feasting and celebration, including traditional Irish music, drinking beer, and eating bacon and cabbage. Another tradition of Saint Patrick’s day is that one has to wear green clothing or they will be pinched.

Green is the color of Saint Patrick's day as it is the national color of Ireland. People often wear green on that day or have some type of shamrock on their clothing. It is very normal that they wear a Shamrock, a three leaved plant which is also a symbol for Ireland. The first St. Patrick's Day parade in Ireland was held in Waterford in 1903. In the beginning, it was a 3 day long celebration, but now it is a 5-day celebration.

Fun Facts                   #RandomfactsaboutRotary
March is Water and Sanitation Month

Over 750 million people in the world lack access to safe water and more than 2.5 billion people lack access to adequate sanitation facilities. At least 3,000 children die each day from diarrheal diseases caused by unsafe water. Rotary's projects give communities the ability to develop and maintain sustainable water and sanitation systems and support studies related to water and sanitation.
